Ask and Ye Shall Recieve - Gravatars Implemented
24.04.07 @ 10:29 pmKellie asked a while back for personal icons for commenters. Well, thanks to a handy Wordpress Gravatar plugin, it was quickly and easily implemented on the site tonight.
I have also sneaked in a another small feature in the comments area. My hope is a couple other small features will be put in place before May 1. It may not be a monumental redesign, but improvements are going to be slow, steady and continual.
If there are any other features you would like to see, please drop me a line or leave a comment in this post.
UPDATE: Well, due to my lack of access to a PC, I failed to notice any cross-browser bugs in IE (silly me). I will try to alleviate this tonight.blogging, commenters, comments, design, gravatar, icon, implementations, improvements, plugin wordpress

Good to see, PJ - Gravatar’s been much smoother since 2006. The site’s really going to be developing fast, huh?

We will see… I am desperately trying to make changes, but if anything in life/work comes up, who knows.
This is by no means going to be some massive redesign on the scale of Steve Tucker’s, but there will be some significant things coming on the site. Let’s hope for the best.

Love it! Now there’s a bit more color/imagery to the comment areas. I can’t believe the avatar thing was such a simple addition to your blog. I am starting to love the wordpress platform more and more.
One question…Did you play around with the look/feel of the comment area? Perhaps trying some subtle dividers between comments? (Like the fine dotted line you have under your blog entry titles.) Just a design nitpick. Overall, I love the new changes. I am eagerly awaiting to see more surprises soon!

Yeah, Wordpress is pretty sweet - now that I have that local testing instance, I am able to do a lot more in much less time.
As for design, none of this is designed at this point other than the absolute bare minimum. I do agree that some divider or zebra-striping would be in order…
So now that this feature was put in, it’s time for you to ign up for a Gravatar.

That was fast. Nice layout changes. I like the use of space to divide comments and the smaller avatars.
I uploaded a G-rated gravatar about 30 minutes ago, but it doesn’t seem to be showing up yet…

I cleared the cache for your gravatar Kellie - you should be good to go now.

You can do it, Steve!
By the way, this is Kellie, writing under a different handle to avoid adding another 50cents to her name…on behalf of Steve who’s trying to catch up. Loopholes rock!
How is this comment useful? I discovered a cool site that allowed me to reminisce the evolution of SRD. I thought it was very appropriate since there are many changes being implemented to improve the site now. It would be cool to feature a visual article about the progression of your site, just as you did with your photography.

Glad to see you have gravatars up and running.
Just wanted to stop by and say I’ve been inspired by your comment love concept and I’m hoping to do something similar on my blog for the month of May. Curious if the comment love things you have functioning on here are or have ever been put into a wordpress plugin. That would be a great treat.
