Animating Gradient Actionscript 3 Experiment

27.03.07 @ 7:03 am

I have been working on a project that requires a gradient background to shift colors dynamically. I usually am not too big of a fan of gradients in general, so I had never spent too much time with them in Flash. After a few minutes of reading through other people's experiences however, I found it to be quite easy.

You need to upgrade your Flash Player

The animation is a continual tween from one gradient to another - I find it very addictive to watch. Big thanks to David Nelson for the basic color tweening logic. After coding this up AS3 within Flash 9, I decided to finish it up with Flex 2 as I had never really given the app a fair shot. After a few minutes of tutelage from a colleague of mine, I wish I would have taken the plunge a long time ago. The whole process in Flex was so much more integrated and helpful. It really made the coding process fun tolerable. Kudos to Macromedia/Adobe putting out such a great product.
