Weekly Photograph - Shoe Shiner
30.05.07 @ 11:55 amThis is, yet again, a photo from our trip to Boston. I am pretty happy about the timing of the photo - I got the person just when he was turning his head to look at me. Lucky shot.
I have been really falling behind on taking photos due to unique circumstances at work. My hope is this will no longer be the case in the next week or so and I will be able to resume my regular photographic regimen. I was amazed at the amount of "characters" in Boston - I mean that in a completely positive manner. There were so many people with so much character - perhaps it was just being out of town that brought about the observation, but many parts of San Francisco seem so vanilla compared to that city. This individual was unfortunately one of the few people I was able to successfully photograph - I feel lucky that this one at least turned out.

What you experienced is newness in seeing, in other words, new environment, so you’re stimulated to see things you would normally ignore.
You can get this in SF, just take someone new to town for a tour, and you’ll get your eyes opened quite a bit. I know and love Boston, and both cities are unique in their own way.

Yeah, I definitely see your point. I just have to switch my “inner lens” from inhabitant to tourist.

Also, go out way early, like 5am or way late, that’ll change your perspective some.
(I am not responsible if you get mugged doing this).
