36clicks is Live

18.06.07 @ 8:10 am

After a relatively long delay, 36clicks, my new photoblog, is up and ready to be viewed. As I mentioned earlier, I intended to launch it at a fairly good state and then go through a second pass after I got a little user feedback. After playing with it, I already have a list going in my head of changes I want to make. Still, I am just glad that it is live and ready to be used.

Please give me your feedback on this post as to what you would like to see on the site, what you think is not working and what you think is working. Feedback of any form would be absolutely great. One major reason why I hope for a ample amount of thoughts/opinions is that I will be releasing this theme after I go through a second pass on design and code cleanup. There are not that many photoblog themes out there, so I thought giving this one out could help some folks.

I am going to be posting photos on 36clicks about two times a week if all goes well. I am unsure if I will continue the Photograph of the Week feature on this site, although I may cross link to my 36clicks photos on this blog for the first month or so in order to get some viewership. I would love to hear your thoughts on whether you would like the photograph of the week to continue on. Personally, I feel it would be redundant and of less quality - this blog has never been a good format for large media…

One of the problems I am facing is that the plugin I am using to drive the photoblog, Yet Another Photoblog, uses phpThumb and it hits my server’s CPU relatively hard. I had hopes to integrate my 36clicks photos onto the home page of Some Random Dude, but until I resolve this, I am hesitant to pull the trigger. I am unsure if this is a known problem of this plugin or if I am implementing it incorrectly. Nonetheless, I will be working on this issue in the coming days.

I would like to continue to see the photo of the week. Then I could click on it and maybe see a link to 36clicks to view more. Photography is still a very important subject for SRD and should contiue. Just link it.

  2. Thanks for the input man, I’ll give that a shot.

I agree with Wild Guess. I think 36clicks should still remain related to SRD, not a separate entity. The linking idea is excellent. Remember–it’s fun and refreshing to see visuals on this site. The photography makes a difference.

Looking good, P.J.! Nice work. I’m not sure about any standing issues with that plugin as I’ve never used it before, but I might be picking your brain in the somewhat near future with some questions about how you set things up. I’ve wanted to do something similar but haven’t had the time, you know how it goes. Once again, nice work and a job well done!

  5. Thanks Jon, I would love to help in any way I can. :)

    awesome photoblog.
a couple of suggestions/thoughts. fellow commenters–feel free to disagree, add to this list, etc.

*still ‘not feeling’ the weight/color treatment of the comment section. it seems to be visually more dominant than the photo itself
*could be cool to have a section featuring photos that you like from your photographer friends
*adding relevant links to the ‘links tab’
*adding arrow icons to the previous and next buttons

  7. Good thoughts as always Kellie, I totally agree with those changes and I’ll put them on “The List”.

    Hi somerandomdude -

The high CPU-load is a bug in YAPB 1.5 and has been solved in the YAPB 1.5.1 release.

    Greets from Salzburg,

    Johannes

  9. Beautiful. You heard the man - it seems 36clicks will be much snappier very soon.
