Photographs from Chinese New Year 2007
4.04.07 @ 11:30 pmMy wife, friends and I went out to Chinese New Year this year to photograph the event. I came out with some pretty nice photos. Like pretty much all my other photos I have taken for the past three or four months, I shot these in black and white. It is arguable that color would have been better with all the reds, greens and golds that the parade displayed - still, looking back, I would have done the same thing.
I took around 40 or 50 photos, 12 of which turned out fairly well. The eight photos below are my favorite. As always, feedback is not just welcome, it is greatly appreciated.
This person was absolutely transfixed on something in the parade. I must have taken 4 or 5 shots of him - this one was my favorite. Why he has a wizard’s hat on is beyond me.
As you may expect, there were plenty of cops in around the parade. The spotlights shining down on the area made for great contrast in this shot.
I really like how this scene has just enough light to hint at the subjects in the scene. Any less light and nothing would be distinguishable, any more and it would be rather boring.
These folks were going crazy on those drums - I wish I could have gotten closer and gotten a better angle to really have shown it better. All that said, I still enjoy this scene.
I love the contrast and what seems like an endless range of grays in the hair of the dragons. This is easily one of my favorites.
This photo arguably would have been better in color to capture all the vibrant hues that the dragon had. Still, I think it is quite nice in black and white.
