SOME RANDOM DUDE

I never thought I would run into Elvis when we visited Portland last week, but lo and behold, that is exactly who we saw...

This photo was another of the many that I took while in Chinatown two weeks ago. There literally are interesting scenes everywhere you turn - this was one I personally enjoyed - the afternoon light and the crevices from the brick wall made for some great shadows.

Since I work in SOMA, I have begun to accumulate quite a few photos from around the area. To say there are plenty of sights to behold where I work is an understatement. I try to bring my camera once or twice a week to see if I can catch something interesting - with my new desire to photograph people, SOMA makes a perfect setting.

I have been waiting for this moment for quite a while… I have made a significant upgrade from my trusty Nikon FT2 to the Nikon F3HP. I was introduced to this camera by a friend and I have been pining over it ever since. However, I really did not feel the need for more automation until I began moving toward photographing people - after a few sessions, I really felt that auto-exposure would be a significant help. After a few serious hours with the camera, I am already blown away at how enjoyable it is to shoot with it.

Once in a blue moon, I actually feel like I pull something fairly quality out of the glass of our Digital SLR. It seems to be much harder for myself to do so with the Canon, but it is improving. This shot turned out quite nicely.
